Family businesses are the predominant form of business organizations in the world contributing an estimated 70-90% of the global GDP. In the United States, family enterprises contribute over 64% of GDP and generate 62% of employment. The greatest part of American wealth lies with family controlled firms. These firms are distinguished from other enterprises by the significant influence of the controlling family on the creation, continuity, mode and extent of growth, and exit of a business. This club based program introduce students to working in, with or for a family business, something that most students will encounter at some point in their career.

Taught in New York City in partnership with leading family business consultants and private wealth planners, this will be a unique experience to enhance your understanding of family business and your role within it.

Objectives:

1. Increase your awareness of the significance, diversity, and complexity of family enterprises across the globe.
2. Develop your understanding of the distinctive advantages of and unique challenges facing family enterprises.
3. Enhance your ability to understand perspectives of different stakeholders in family firms.
4. Apply participant's personal experience to gain further understanding of their role in a family enterprise, whether as a family member, owner, stakeholder or advisor.
5. Knowledge transfer and network building for emerging leaders in family enterprise.
6. An understanding of future challenges for business leaders; succession planning, building credibility, change management, etc.
7. Exposure to additional skill sets, concepts and theoretical frameworks needed to work competently within a family business setting.
