Catherine Barrera
Assistant Professor of Economics

Professor Barrera researches the impact of technology on the labor market. She uses economic theory to explore how developments in production and information technology change the demand for skills, the composition of jobs, wage inequality, and the relationships between workers and organizations. Understanding these shifts is crucial for both workers who are facing changing labor market conditions and firms that are recruiting and retaining talent in increasingly competitive environments.
Her current research focuses on how complementarities in output between production technologies and skill affect the adoption of new technology among workers of different skill levels, the distribution of skill levels in different industries, workersÔÇÖ investment in general skills, and inequality.
Professor Barrera received her PhD in business economics from Harvard University, and an MSc in applicable mathematics from the London School of Economics.
