Nearly a billion people around the world still suffer from hunger and poor nutrition while a billion are overweight or obese. This imbalance highlights the need not only to focus on food production but also to implement successful food policies.
Join Dr. Pinstrup-Andersen, the J. Thomas Clark Professor of Entrepreneurship and professor of applied economics at Cornell, for a "Chats in the Stacks" talk about his new book "Food Policy for Developing Countries: The Role of Government in Global, National, and Local Food Systems" (Cornell University Press). The book is a comprehensive road map for understanding how governments and markets shape food policies and production, and addresses the complex challenges that lie ahead in view of poverty, globalization, climate change, food price volatility, natural resource degradation, demographic and dietary transitions, and increasing interests in local and organic food production.
Pinstrup-Andersen is the 2001 World Food Prize Laureate and the H. E. Babcock Professor of Food, Nutrition and Public Policy. Coauthor is economist Derrill Watson II of the American University of Nigeria.
A reception and book signing will follow. The "Chats in the Stacks" book talk is funded by the Mary A. Morrison Public Education Fund at Mann Library.
