Lessons from Asia: Becoming a Global Technology Leader

Dr. David Steel is the head of strategy and corporate communications for Samsung Electronics North America. Reporting to the CEO, he is responsible for business strategy, including new sources of business growth and cross divisional initiatives, and for communications, including corporate reputation, media relations and corporate responsibility.
Dr. Steel moved to the US in the summer of 2008 after more than ten years at Samsung Electronics in Korea. He first joined the Samsung Global Strategy Group, where he managed strategy and business development projects for numerous companies within the Samsung Group, including Samsung Petrochemicals, S1 Security Services and Samsung Trading. In 2002, he became the first non-Korean appointed as a corporate executive in Samsung and spent the following five years as head of marketing for the Digital Media business of Samsung Electronics, where he helped drive brand growth and business expansion across consumer electronics and IT products. In 2007, he moved to the Mobile Communications division, where he oversaw strategy for the emerging leader in mobile phones.
