There is slight overlap with the PowerPoint 101 class, in that tips and tricks will be reviewed and incorporated wherever possible; however, this class is focused more on organizational and design techniques.  Specifically we will be looking using a more visual, creative approach to slide creation. We will look at tools to help you arrange your presentation quickly and efficiently. This workshop is a combination of using the tools within PowerPoint as well as making effective design and content decisions.

This hands-on workshop will focus on adding "bells and whistles" to your presentation. Most of the material covered is not difficult to do, but simply "buried" in the software. It is always the little extra touches that make you stand out. For example, we will build our own templates from scratch. Do you know where to get professional backgrounds for your slides and use them in your presentations?  Do you know what "branching" or action buttons are and how to create them? We will also look more closely at working with numeric data – should you use a simple table, a complicated chart – if there’s too much data, how do you break it up with losing the main message of each slide?  How to focus on just highlights in a complicated data set?

Some basic strategies for organizing common business presentations will be reviewed and incorporated into the presentation that is created in class. For example, one place many presentations fail is in the use of effective titling, what is the best way to transition from one topic to the next?

You must already be very comfortable using PowerPoint in order to participate in this workshop and PowerPoint 101 is highly recommended for those not already familiar with PowerPoint.

Students need to bring their WINDOWS laptop with PowerPoint 2013 or 2010 installed and their wireless internet connection enabled.  Those with Macs should feel free to attend with the understanding that what the instructor is using will likely look very different from an Apple environment.
