WINE: "BEVERAGE OF THE GODS"

Sounds intimidating...but it need not be!

Since antiquity, wine has been lauded for its characteristics as a simple, natural beverage. Join us on an enologic pilgrimage where we will discuss wine basics; sensory evaluation (sight, smell, taste, and touch); and the pairing of food and wine.

We'll swirl, sniff, and taste our way through some of Castello Banfi's Tuscan superstars and try to dispel some wine myths such as "one can only enjoy white wine with fish, and red wine must be served with red meats."

Banfi Vintners has ranked as the U.S.A.'s leading wine importer for more than three decades. A family-owned and operated firm, it was founded by John Mariani, Sr. in 1919. He named the company after an aunt, Teodolinda Banfi, a woman of eclectic tastes who supervised his early education and greatly influenced his views toward fine wines. Today the company is led by the founder's two sons, John F. Mariani (Cornell, 1954) and Harry Mariani, as well as two of their children, Cristina and James (JGSM MBA, 1991), respectively.

In 1978, the Mariani’s, wanting to insure total quality control from the ground up, invested in Italy, establishing world-recognized vineyards and wineries in Tuscany ("Castello Banfi, a constellation of single vineyards") and in Piedmont (Banfi Cellars and the Principessa Gavia Estate), Italy.

We invite you to travel with us, have some fun, and taste some fascinating superstars from Castello Banfi's famed Tuscan portfolio on our journey into the realm of fine wine.
