Patricia Kapusta has facilitated workshops for the Managerial Skills Program in Microsoft Office software since Spring 1998. Formerly Assistant Professor in the Computer Science Department at Ithaca College, she currently teaches computer applications at several regional community colleges.
Using Excel Efficiently and Effectively

Being efficient means producing results with little wasted effort. Being effective means producing powerful results. This workshop is designed to help you use Microsoft Excel more efficiently to save time and more effectively to produce better results. This workshop is especially designed to prepare first-year students with limited experience using Excel to succeed in Finance, but even proficient Excel users will gain some new, valuable skills.
Time-saving and results-getting topics include: ÔÇ¿ÔÇ¿
- Use absolute and mixed cell references
- Use AutoFill to copy and format cells
- Build functions using Insert Function
- Use the IF function, summary functions, and error functions
- Use VLOOKUP and INDEX with MATCH to lookup a value in a table
- Use What-If Analysis tools like Goal Seak
- Name cells and ranges to simplify calculations, to simplify navigation, and to provide absolute cell referencing Create several custom chart types
- Define a table object and use its structured references in formulas
Prerequisites: Familiarity with Excel is assumed, but not required. Participants are expected to have Microsoft Office for Mac or Windows installed. Not all Excel features are available with Microsoft Office for Mac.
