Bisexuality Awareness Day, held annually on September 23rd, celebrates the members and allies of the bisexual community and aims to give legitimacy to an often misunderstood and misrepresented sexuality. Bisexual rights activists Wendy Curry, Michael Page, and Gigi Wilbur-Raven announced this day of recognition during the International Gay and Lesbian Association Conference in 1999. As Wilbur-Raven said during the conference: "the bisexual community…has grown in strength but in many ways [is] still invisible." Bisexuality Awareness Day is a yearly opportunity to show support for those in the bisexual community.
