This week, Michael Gilbert is our guest speaker. He is Director of Energy & Sustainability a Fairstead, where he leads the company's initiatives around energy, water, waste, and connectivity across the entire portfolio of properties. He oversees a growing portfolio of approximately 140 buildings, where he is developing scores of solar, energy and water efficiency projects at most locations. He has spent his career working in cleantech, sustainability and energy for government, industry, startups, management consulting and utilities. Prior to joining Fairstead, Michael was previously Manger of Business Development for Con Edison, one of the county's largest investor owned utilities, serving over 10 million customers in New York City and Westchester with electricity, gas and steam. In this role, Michael developed project opportunities for energy efficiency, demand response, demand management, energy storage, distributed generation, customer resiliency, microgrids and electric vehicles. He was in a unique position from which to interact with building and business owners, technology developers, solution providers, financiers, and regulators.

Earlier in his career, he worked for the United States Environmental Protection Agency on both hazardous waste remediation and international development. He had work in and early-stage company commercializing a high-yield algae production system for biofuel and animal feed, and had spent several years as the energy and environmental manager for Pitney Bowes.

Michael holds a BS in Agricultural Engineering and an MS in Environmental Engineering from Cornell University, and an MBA from the University of Connecticut. He is a licensed Professional Engineer and Certified Energy Manager, and is a frequent speaker on energy, sustainability and business topics.
