Like Zaya, many Cornell students have multiple intersectional identities and experience discrimination due to their race, sexuality, etc., We intend to leverage this topic to begin the discussion about some of the challenges these communities face and how allies can support these individuals. This event will be facilitated by Johnson’s Black Graduate Business Association and Out for Business in partnership with the LGBTQ Resource Center.

As part of this event, we have partnered with Cornell’s Women’s Health Initiative to donate sanitary products to a local shelter in Ithaca, St. John’s Shelter. There will be a drop-box in the Sage Atrium for all physical donations during Ally Week. All monetary donations will be used to purchase sanitary products. If you will not be in Sage and would like to arrange a drop off, reach out to Joyelle Fleming or Jessica Bryson. For monetary donations send to Joyelle via Venmo (@Joyelle-Fleming).
6:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Focusing on the topic of intersectionality, we want to discuss women who love women and the stereotypes that surround them. From discrediting their sexual attraction by claiming that a woman is only a lesbian or bisexual because she hasn’t found the right man, to the dichotomy of fetishizing feminine women through lesbian porn and stereotyping masculine women as butch, and the issues they experience when it comes to representation on the media vs gay men.
