During Spring Break 2026 (March 28 – April 4), EMC² will lead a student trek to Ghana, offering a deeply immersive experience in West African business, culture, innovation, and community engagement. Students will meet with local companies, universities, and entrepreneurs who are shaping one of Africa’s most dynamic emerging markets.

Registration Timeline

  • Residential MBAs Registration Opens: January 15 at 9:00 AM

  • General Registration Opens: January 20 at 9:00 AM

  • Registration Closes: Monday, January 25 at 5:00 PM

Why Ghana?

Ghana is one of the most vibrant and stable economies in sub-Saharan Africa, known for its entrepreneurial spirit, cultural richness, and rapidly expanding sectors like fintech, agribusiness, creative industries, and clean energy.

With a strong legacy rooted in the Ashanti Kingdom, a globally influential diaspora, and a rising ecosystem of family-owned and mid-sized enterprises, Ghana provides an unparalleled environment for students to observe sustainable development and emerging-market leadership in real time.

This trek gives students a chance to engage directly with leaders navigating growth, innovation, and social impact in an evolving global economy.

Dates

Saturday, March 28 – Saturday, April 4, 2026

Transportation

  • Students are responsible for arranging their own flights to and from Ghana.

  • All in-country transportation will be organized for the full group.

Lodging

  • 7 nights of hotel accommodations included (March 28 – April 4)

Meals

  • Daily Hotel breakfast included

  • All lunches and dinners provided

Approximate Cost

$2,600 – $2,800 USD (final pricing forthcoming)
International flights not included.

Please Note: The trek fee covers hotels, transportation, programming, and travel agency arrangements. Due to prebooked commitments, refunds cannot be guaranteed if a participant withdraws; however, we will review individual circumstances on a case-by-case basis.

Foster Cunningham Fund

The Foster Cunningham Fund provides financial support for students participating in official Cornell study trips in emerging markets. Awards typically range from $1,000 to $1,500, based on merit and demonstrated need. Students may only receive one Cunningham award during their studies.

This fund was established in memory of Foster S. Cunningham, AB ’54, MBA ’55, and is dedicated to helping students explore global markets and gain hands-on experience abroad—making it a meaningful option for students participating in the 2026 Ghana Trek.

Ideal applicants will:

  • Be an EMC² Fellow

  • Clearly articulate how the Ghana Trek connects to their academic and career goals

  • Demonstrate financial need or relevant personal financial context
