Leadership Crisis Challenge
Do You Have What it Takes?
If you're going to lead, it’s inevitable that you’ll face a crisis at some point in your career. And it’s in moments of crisis that you’ll show what you’re made of—can you rise to the challenge, think critically, and lead through ambiguity to a successful outcome? Or will you falter? Find out at the Leadership Crisis Challenge.
You need to be able to step up and lead during times of crisis, change, and uncertainty. That’s why we’re inviting you to participate in our annual Leadership Crisis Challenge. This intensive case competition/simulation exercise will throw you headfirst into a crisis situation so you can both test and further develop skills that can’t possibly be captured in a classroom.
During this competition you will:
- Present a crisis response plan to a “Board of Directors” and address their concerns
- Receive real-time oral communications feedback from a member of the Communications faculty
- Negotiate a live press conference (if you make the finals), fielding questions from actual reporters and members of the press
- Manage through a crisis in a competition unlike any other you have experienced
In addition to gaining valuable experience that will serve you well in your career, you’ll also:
- Compete for the $2,000 Grand Prize!
- Earn 0.4 LSP credits. Please note that you may only earn credit once--you can participate more than once if you would like, and are eligible for prizes, but can only earn academic credit the first time you participate.
- Have fun!

The first 15 complete teams to register completely will get spots in the competition. All team members must register on campus groups for a team's spot to be secured. Registration dates will be posted here at the start of the spring semester.
Residential Ithaca MBA students may compete in teams of 3 or 4, and should have a name for their team. In order for a team to be registered, all members of the team need to sign up in campus groups.
The timestamp on the registration of the last member of the team to register will be used as the registration time to determine which teams get to compete.
If you need a team, you can use this google doc to find others interested in participating who don't have teams (coming soon!).
