What? Camping trip. There are two options for you to pick from: stay in a cabin or car-camp (no carrying a pack on your back – all camping gear is set up from the cars we bring). There will be lots of hiking in addition to the camping.
Where? in Letchworth State Park. ~2 hours drive outside of Ithaca to the north west. We have reserved one cabin (holds 6 people) and one campsite in a tent(s) (also holds 6 people)
About: Letchworth state park is known as the grand canyon of the east. It has running water and bathrooms.
When? The option for sleeping Friday night, Saturday night, or both Friday and Saturday night.
Friday only: Leave Friday morning/mid day and return Saturday evening.
Saturday only: Leave Ithaca 8am arrive back in Ithaca Sunday evening/night.
Both Friday and Saturday: Leave Friday morning/mid day and return Sunday evening/night
Note that the primary day will be Friday trip. Those who choose to stay Saturday night will have to organize transportation back to Ithaca. As of now Susan, Jackie and Rodrigo are driving and staying Friday. The three of us are very likely returning on Saturday.
Pack: Need your own sleeping bag, sleeping mat (tent camping only), sleeping other things, toiletries, pack 2 lunches (no refrigeration), Hiking boots, flip flops, warm hat and socks, Hiking clothes, rain coat, warm clothes (just in case – it can get cold at night), snacks, water container, cash. Cost: Will determine cost after the trip – we will be splitting all costs evenly (cost of campfire dinner, reservation, park entry, gasoline, etc) We do not make any profit off of this, but we also don’t want to go out of pocket. A very high estimate for 2 nights of camping is $50 and a very high estimate for 2 nights in a cabin is $80. We are trying to get funding through SC and Cornell but if we get funding, it will likely only cover a portion of the trip for each individual.
To do: Post on the group-specific group chat that you will be attending for xx days AND add your name to the excel list. You also should confirm with one of the club officers to ensure there is enough space to accommodate you. Once this happens, coordinate a carpool. On the excel list, list any dietary restrictions. Ensure you fill out the waiver.
