Over the past decade, Sri Lanka has amassed nearly $50 billion in debt and has defaulted on its payments, resulting in restrictions and limited access to capital markets.

Compounded by a lack of economic activity, high global inflation, dwindled foreign reserves, supply chain stagnation, and geopolitical turmoil, the Sri Lankan debt crisis poses imminent concerns for both investors and Sri Lankan citizens, with potential harmful ripple effects across the global economy.

In this virtual roundtable, a panel of experts from the World Bank and Cornell University will examine the origins of the Sri Lankan debt crisis and analyze the economic and political patterns that are leading the country toward a challenging and uncertain future.
