Details
Our vision for the evening is heavily inspired by the well-known radio show/podcast The Moth, which features real people on stage telling true stories from their life.
The theme for the evening is: "Story of My Life: Living as a Woman." The event will feature the amazing, hilarious, and courageous stories of Johnson women. Stories can span the gamut -- love lost and love found, death-defying danger, spiritual awakenings, malfunctioning rabbit costumes -- and so much more. Remember, the story must be true, from your life.
Everyone is welcome, even if you do not wish to tell a story. But if you do have a story to share, here is how it will work:
On March 16th, Professor Barbara Mink will host a training on the art of effective and compelling storytelling. The training will take place from 1:30-2:30PM. The training is open to all, but is targeted towards those who would like to present a monologue at the storytelling event.
On March 27th at 4:30PM, we will host the storytelling event at the Big Red Barn. The guideline are as follows:
- Come with a story prepared, one that relates to the theme.
- The story must be true, from your own life.
- Ten people will get up on the 'stage' to tell their story in the order they are called.
- Stories should be no longer than six minutes. You will be cut off after this time.
- You are not allowed to use notes.
- You should prepare (i.e. rehearse) beforehand, to ensure the best possible story-telling/listening experience for everyone.
If you are interested in sharing a story, please e-mail Gilda Charles (gc476) by March 16th. Everyone interested in attending, regardless of whether or not you are telling a story, should RSVP.
Pizza and drinks (beer!) will be provided.
